who we are
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY is a nonprofit organisation to tackle poverty housing around the world. We aim to make adequate housing a matter of CONSCIENCE and ACTION. Habitat welcomes partners from any faith – or no faith – to pick up a hammer and hoist a bag of cement to help improve the lives of families needing decent shelter.
what we do
Local Habitat affiliates build houses in partnership with people in need, and then sell the houses to the homeowner partners. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing and ability to repay our non-profit loan. Their mortgage payments contribute to a Fund for Humanity, which in turn provides the money to build more houses. Because the houses are principally built with volunteer labour, the loan repayments are affordable for the low-income homeowners
where we work
This organisation started in USA in 1976, but today our work reaches around the world. Currently, more than 2,300 affiliates are at work in ranging from Afghanistan to Zambia, from Malaysia to China.
